Abby had surgery on one of her eyes last week. You may remember that she had another eye surgery at the beginning of last year, where the muscles below her eyes were tightened. This helped get her eyes working together a little better, but there is still one that drifts down and in. So this time the doctor went in and tightened a different muscle in the eye that drifts. Obviously we are hoping that this will finally allow her to use her eyes in sync. And hopefully it will help with her head tilt as well. Her doctor has said before that her head tilt is a good sign because it shows that she is compensating and trying to see instead of just shutting off the vision in her weak eye. So we stopped trying to discourage the tilt. Best case scenario is that she gains more control over her eye movement and then realizes that she can see without having to tilt her head. It will still be a couple weeks before we are supposed to see any results. But I am very optimistic. Abby is a trooper. She did really well. Her eye got pretty swollen, but there weren't any complications. Anthony and I weren't too excited about the thought of another surgery, but we really, really want her to be able to see better. It's been a long time. How annoying must it be for her to have to hold her head to the side in order to see things clearly?? My biggest hope is that it will help with her balance so that she can start walking. That would be amazing. But......no expectations.
