Abby's actual birthday was early in the week and we tried hard to make it a special day for her.
She woke up to find special birthday streamers in her doorway.
She had a special birthday waffle for breakfast - and she ate everything on her plate.
She had special birthday decorations on her wheelchair for school.
She got a special birthday crown from her teacher.
And we had a special birthday picnic at the park for dinner.
I think she had a pretty special day.
Lying in bed that night I found it strange to think that I gave birth to my first child 4 years ago. I know four years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, but it is still a long time. It's half of my married life. And at the same time it seems to have gone by so fast. Especially the last 17 months. Those have just blown by, even though time seemed to virtually stand still for so long. Time is a weird thing.
Here are some of the things that I LOVE about Abby right now.
- I love that she can eat, and that she enjoys it.
- I love that when she wakes up from a nap she is still tired and just wants to be held - for a very long time.
- I love that when I hold her, she holds onto me.
- I love that when I ask her if she wants me to read her a book, she will immediately start to climb into my lap.
- I love that when she is excited about something or when something piques her interest, her eyes get big and round like lollipops.
- I love that she lifts up Anthony's shirt and tries to tickle his stomach when he is lying on the floor.
- I love that she still has a mind of her own and doesn't do things that she doesn't want to do.
- I love that she will tell me what she wants by using her iPad (I'll talk more about that later).
- I love that when it is time for bed she wants to be cuddled. By ME.
- I love that she will sit next to me on the couch and watch an hour or more of a movie.
- I love that when Spencer gives her a hug, she just pushes him away.
- I love that she now makes it very clear when she wants to be held.
- I love that when she is standing with her back against the wall, she will try to take a step forward.
- I love that she will go #2 on the toilet if we catch her in time.
- I love her pretty hair.
- I love that she has trimmed down slightly since coming off her formula. She looks more like the Abby that I remember.
- And I love that she is a member of our little family.
Happy Birthday Abby!! We love you more than you could possibly understand.
