Sickies

This was our first week in quite a while without any appointments!! It was a good thing because the cold bug hit our house pretty hard. Abby had it last week and then passed it onto me, Spencer, and now Anthony. I am a wimp when I am sick, so I was glad not to have any extra running around to do. On Wednesday Abby went to therapy all by herself because I felt so yucky. Spencer was sounding pretty bad too, so I kept him with me and we went shopping while Abby had fun at "school."
Two sickies wandering around Target.

Abby did pretty good by herself. During her second session that day her therapists tried an experiment involving darkness and an iPad. They have been trying to get Abby to use an iPad so that she can eventually use it as a means for communication, but so far she has had absolutely no interest in it. She wouldn't even touch it. But on Wednesday, they sat in a dark room with her and the only thing in there with them was a glowing iPad. It worked - she touched it voluntarily and purposefully. Her OT let us borrow it for the week so she can get extra practice and feel comfortable playing with it. Once we establish a fun relationship with it, we can start using it for more functional purposes like making choices. We can take pictures of her actual toys or books and she can touch the picture for the one she wants. Or we can have a picture of her bed if she is tired, etc. That's pretty cool. But for now, we are just working on getting her comfortable with touching it.

Spencer joined us at therapy on Thursday because I couldn't find a babysitter. He had so much fun! He loved being in the PT gym with the big mirror wall (he really likes looking at himself). He and Abby had fun together in a big plastic tub filled with pinto beans (great sensory exploration!) but I didn't get any pictures. I was too focused on keeping the beans out of his mouth...

I'm glad we had a slow week because this coming week is going to be CRAZY. We have way too many appointments, and only one of them will be semi-untorturous (is that a word?) for Abby. Wish us luck!
