On The Move

I feel like I have missed a few weeks worth of updates...we've been busy. But here's the main highlight:

Guess who can crawl!! Abby really started to get the hang of it around Christmas. She was pretty wobbly then, and still is, but now she can go 3 or 4 strides without falling. Even when she does fall or flatten out she just scoots a little bit, then gets right back up and starts crawling again. It's fun to watch - just like it was the first time around. A few nights ago she managed to get out of her room and all the way across the house to our bedroom in the middle of the night. (Some habits never die!) I love that she can move now because she is actually able to do something that SHE WANTS to do. In fact, she won't sit still anymore. Up until now she would sit on our laps and read books for half an hour or more. But now she won't even sit for one short story. Now that she knows she can move, she wants to do it all the time. And I'm ok with that! Except for when she has to be in her chair...she absolutely HATES being in that thing now more than ever. I am hoping we can get her in for another swallow study next month. We'll see if her swallow has improved enough to decrease her formula and increase what we can give her by mouth. That would mean less time in the chair. We'll see...  I tried to upload a video of her crawling, but for some reason it wouldn't work. So you'll just have to use your imagination!

Abby has a new collection of bruises on her face too. She has been pulling herself up to stand at the couch and various other surfaces around the house and I'm sure you can guess what happens next. She looses her balance and then smacks her face on something. I remember when she first started crawling and climbing as a baby, we joked that she needed to wear a football helmet because she got so many bruises on her face. Maybe that's not such a bad idea now! It's not that we don't watch her, she just doesn't want our help. She will actually remove our hands from her when we try to give her support. So I just watch from a distance and intervene only when I know she is about to get hurt. But sometimes I'm not quick enough...hence the bruises.

Sometimes I really wish I could take my kids out to the store and run errands like a normal mom. But that's not going to happen for a while. Today I was having a 'normal' itch and decided we ALL needed to go to Costco. They have huge carts with double seats and I wanted to see if we could make it work - but only because Anthony was home. I would never have attempted it by myself! I'm not that crazy! I figured Abby would just try to attack Spencer the whole time. And that's exactly what happened! She sat pretty well in the cart and held onto the handle, except for when she was trying to get her brother. It was a quick outing, just for diapers and wipes, but it was the closest thing to normal we've done in a long time.

  1. Wow great progress, and you guys are doing fine .
I know how tempting it can be to try to steady your child when they are about to tumble but you have to give them space to learn on their own.
Poor Spencer i know he is quick in getting away when he is on the floor but sitting next to Abby well thats another story :)
I love my Abby and Spencer too!!
